INSIDE THE ART, CRAFT AND BUSINESS OF WRITING for Film, TV, Books, Stage, Print or Digital Media (with Particular Attention to Comedy)
A high schooler of my acquaintance was recently complaining that she “didn’t know how to study”. I didn’t realize until after I’d helpfully prepared this handy tip-sheet that she was probably just complaining because she had boring homework that had to be done over the summer.
Even the most enthusiastic writer who’s writing a project they really want to write sometimes feels like they’ve been assigned (or assigned themselves!) boring homework. Some phases of most projects are boring. But what are you going to do? It all has to get done.
My high school friend will almost certainly ignore these tips – and probably already lost the print-out – but maybe they can help you the next time you find yourself having a hard time doing what you have to do.
P.S. – Feel free to download and circulate this tip sheet to any high schoolers you know so it can be ignored as widely as possible.
