This book is non-fiction, but it’s a page-turner. A mind-blowing story about an enslaved couple, who escape the ante-bellum South written by Lyon Woo. The woman, Ellen, passes for a rich, young, white man; her husband, William, acts as the ‘young man’s’ slave. Together, and sometimes separated, they make their way, by ship and train, north to Philadelphia, Boston, and finally to freedom in England, where they join Frederick Douglas, and other self-liberated people, as stars of the Abolitionist lecture circuit. This is really an amazing journey, metaphorically and literally. Don’t miss it.

Wow! Looks amazing!
